Plisio alternatives: where your crypto payments really go
Plisio is a popular low-cost crypto payment gateway with a WooCommerce plugin, a 0.5% fee on its gateway API and no KYC for a basic setup. The question most merchants should ask before going live with it is a simple one: when a buyer pays, where does the money sit? Here is what Plisio says, and how the alternatives compare.
How Plisio works, and the custody question
Plisio charges 0.5% per payment on its gateway API and 1.5% on its white-label option, with no setup or recurring fees according to its plugin, plus a network fee that depends on whether you choose normal or priority speed. Its official WooCommerce plugin is on WordPress.org and was last updated in February 2026.
On custody, Plisio’s own pages disagree. Its pricing page says payments are sent automatically to your account and that 90% of funds are kept in cold wallets, which describes a balance Plisio holds for you. A 2026 Plisio article calls the service non-custodial. Before you route a store’s revenue through it, confirm in writing where incoming payments sit and when they reach your own wallet.
What to compare
Custody: is the payment ever in someone else’s balance, and for how long? Setup: account, verification, API key, or just a wallet address? Coins: does it take USDT on TRON and USDC on the cheap networks your buyers use? Plugin: is it in the WordPress.org directory and kept up to date? Cost: the per-payment fee plus network, conversion and withdrawal fees.
The alternatives
Vaultion Payments is a free WooCommerce plugin in the WordPress.org directory with no account, no KYC and no API key: paste a receiving address and the checkout is live. On EVM networks, Solana and TRON the buyer pays your wallet directly, and the 0.75% fee is split off in the same on-chain transaction, so there is no balance to withdraw. Bitcoin, Litecoin and the “Send to address” ETH option pass through a Vaultion deposit address and are forwarded after confirmation. It takes USDT on TRON and Solana, USDC on Base, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain and Solana, and BTC, ETH, LTC, SOL, TRX, POL and BNB. It needs a USD store currency.
NOWPayments supports more than 300 coins, forwards payments to your own wallet by default, and needs an account and API key but no KYC to sign up. Its pages list 0.5% to 1% depending on conversion. Its official plugin is downloaded from its site.
CoinGate charges 1%, requires business verification, holds payments in your CoinGate balance and settles weekly, including to a bank in EUR, USD or GBP. It is licensed under MiCA but does not list USDT.
BTCPay Server is free, self-hosted, non-custodial and KYC-free, built for Bitcoin and Lightning, with USDT only through community plugins.
Escrow, which none of them offer
For expensive orders, Vaultion Payments can hold the buyer’s USDC or USDT in a smart contract, not with Vaultion, until the buyer confirms delivery or the review period ends. The buyer pays the escrow fee (4% below 500 USDC, 3% from 500, 2% from 5,000), and you decide whether escrow is off, the buyer’s choice, or required. Disputes go to Vaultion-assisted human arbitration, which is not decentralized: you are trusting Vaultion’s reviewers. A separate guardian can pause a ruling but never redirect funds.
See it for yourself
Vaultion runs on a published, open-source contract that holds the funds — not Vaultion. You can read it and the locked balance on the block explorer before you send anything.
