Escrow on Base
Base is Coinbase’s Ethereum L2, and a low-gas place to escrow USDC you have just withdrawn from Coinbase. Vaultion’s contract on Base is the same model as Ethereum mainnet, verified on Basescan, with gas that costs cents.

How a Base escrow runs
Create and fund
Describe the deal, name the other party, choose USDC or DAI, the amount, the buyer review period and the challenge window. Approve the token, then fund. The fee is its own transfer at creation.
The seller delivers
Off-chain, as agreed. Both sides get email notifications as the escrow changes state.
The buyer releases, or the review period runs
Release sends the funds to the seller. If the buyer does nothing and raises no dispute, the funds can be released to the seller once the review period ends.
Dispute, if needed
Either side opens a dispute, both submit evidence, a Vaultion reviewer rules, and the chosen challenge window runs before the ruling is finalized. Full detail in what happens in a dispute.
Collect
After a ruling, finalizing credits the winner inside the contract and they collect with their own wallet.
The shortest path from an exchange to an escrow
Coinbase withdraws USDC to Base without a network fee. Send the USDC to your own wallet on Base, keep a few dollars of ETH on Base for gas, and create the escrow. No bridge, no swap.
Assisted review is a trust decision
On Base a Vaultion reviewer settles disputes. It is fast and fee-less, and it means you are trusting Vaultion to rule fairly. A freeze-only guardian can pause a ruling but can never redirect funds.
Frequently asked
Which stablecoins work on Base escrow?
USDC and DAI. USDT and PYUSD are not on the Base contract’s token allowlist, which is fixed at deployment.
Is Kleros available on Base?
No. Base escrows use Vaultion-assisted review, which is fee-less and not decentralized: a Vaultion reviewer rules. For Kleros, use Ethereum mainnet.
Why Base rather than Arbitrum?
Both are Ethereum L2s with low gas and the same escrow model. Base is the natural choice if your USDC is already there, for example withdrawn from Coinbase, which sends to Base for free. Arbitrum adds USDT.
Which wallet do I need?
Any EVM wallet set to Base: Coinbase Wallet, MetaMask, Rabby or a WalletConnect wallet, with a little ETH on Base for gas.
Can I verify the Base contract?
Yes. The escrow contract source is verified on Basescan and linked from the security page. The verify guide walks through what to check.
